URBAN LEAGUE OF CENTRAL CAROLINAS PRESIDENT AND CEO ROBYN LAKE HAMILTON RECEIVES URBAN LEAGUE MOVEMENT CHAMPION AWARD

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 6, 2024) — The Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) is proud to announce that its President and CEO Robyn Lake Hamilton was named a 2024 recipient of the Urban League Movement Champion Award for Leadership in Housing, presented during the National Urban League Empowerment Summit in Washington, D.C.

Hamilton was recognized for the Urban League of Central Carolina’s leadership in the Diverse Appraiser Initiative, a program launched in partnership with the National Urban League and Wells Fargo. A $5 million grant from Wells Fargo seeded the program which aims to increase diversity and reduce barriers to entry in the home appraisal industry. 

When asked about what this recognition means for the Urban League and its work to promote fair housing practices, Hamilton said, “The Urban League is committed to reducing racial disparities in housing, beginning right here in our own backyard. The North Carolina real estate appraisal industry is ripe for disruption, with fewer than 4% of appraisers in the state being non-white. The lack of diversity in this space has far-reaching economic impacts on Black and Brown communities. We’re fighting to change that. This award denotes we’re heading in the right direction.”
