Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su to Deliver Keynote Address at the Urban League of Central Carolinas Spring Graduation During National Infrastructure Investment Week

ACTING SECRETARY OF LABOR JULIE A. SU TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE URBAN LEAGUE OF CENTRAL CAROLINAS SPRING GRADUATION DURING NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT WEEK

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 6, 2024) — Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su will deliver the keynote address at the Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) spring graduation on Thursday, May 16 at Greater Mount Moriah Church in Charlotte, NC. The ceremony will feature 105 graduates who successfully completed 10 weeks of workforce development training in HVAC, Electrical, and Certified Nursing Assistant trades. This will be ULCC’s largest graduating class.

Su became Acting Secretary of Labor on March 11, 2023. Before assuming this role, she was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the deputy secretary of labor on July 13, 2021. As deputy secretary, she served as the de facto chief operating officer for the department. Acting Secretary Su is a nationally recognized expert on workers’ and civil rights and has dedicated her career to advancing justice on behalf of marginalized communities. 

Acting Secretary Su will speak at the ULCC graduation as part of National Infrastructure Investment Week from May 13-17, 2024. During the week, Acting Secretary Su will visit several organizations across the country that play a crucial role in improving American infrastructure.

Urban League of Central Carolinas President and CEO Robyn Lake Hamilton stated, “It is an honor to have Acting Secretary Su to acknowledge the hard work our students have accomplished and celebrate our largest group of graduates in our 46-year history.” ULCC has been a pillar of the Charlotte community advocating for and equipping African Americans and all underserved communities with the tools needed to achieve economic security and upward mobility. The graduation ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. at Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church on West Trade Street.
