URBAN LEAGUE OF CENTRAL CAROLINAS PARTNERS WITH SHE BUILT THIS CITY, GOODWILL, CHARLOTTE BUILDING TRADES IN COMMITMENT TO RECRUIT UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS
CHARLOTTE, NC — The Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) is proud to announce its partnership with She Built This City, Goodwill Construction Skills Training Center, and the Charlotte Building Trades to develop direct-entry jobs focused on recruiting underserved populations.
The partnership was formed in commitment to the Departments of Commerce and Labor’s Good Jobs Principles as part of President Biden’s Investing in America Initiative. These eight principles outline a framework for job quality and range from best practices around recruitment and hiring, benefits, DEIA, empowerment and representation, job security and working conditions, organizational culture, pay, and skills and career advancement.
Through this partnership, these organizations will recruit directly from the Charlotte community to meet the demand for unprecedented federal infrastructure investments coming to North Carolina in the next decade. The goal is to build an open and inclusive talent pipeline for construction and construction-related industries. The partnership includes collaboration with unions, including local chapters of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), Ironworkers, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Sheet Metal Workers, and Operating Engineers.
During the joint announcement, Urban League of Central Carolinas President and CEO Robyn Lake Hamilton said, “Our goal is that every American has access to jobs with a living wage and good benefits. The Good Jobs Principles align with our organization’s values and complement what we already do as an organization.”
This workforce development partnership will build collective worker power and make North Carolina a more equitable, accessible, and safe place for all workers.
