Makeda Holley-Johnson

Emerging Programs and Education Director
Urban League of Central Carolinas

Makeda (Holley) Johnson is the inaugural Emerging Programs and Education Director of Urban League of Central Carolinas. Mrs. Johnson is responsible for all programs including the Working Women, Thriving families, Bettering Communities, Career Bridge, and Project Ready initiatives.

Makeda has worked in both education and nonprofit sectors for over fifteen years in Richmond, Virginia; Charlotte, North Carolina and Buffalo, New York.  Mrs. Johnson serves as a tutor to middle and high school students and a consultant to small businesses.  Makeda holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from the State University of New York College at Buffalo; a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and instruction from University of New England; and an Administrator licensure from Gardner- Webb University.  She is currently enrolled at Gardner-Webb University to complete her Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Johnson is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated and Kappa Delta Pi.  Makeda’s philosophy is from South Africa and states the following: “Ubuntu- I am because we are”.  This ideal has guided her in ensuring that she both empowers the community while changing lives.
