Young, Jr. Award\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlotte, NC \u2014 The Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) will present the Whitney M. Young. Jr. Award <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the honorable Governor Roy Cooper at its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbanleaguecc.org\/wmy-gala-2024\/\">annual awards gala<\/a> on Friday, August 2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2024. The Whitney M. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young, Jr. Award is given to honor individuals who demonstrate leadership and support for the African <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American community through community service and investment. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This prestigious award is presented in honor of Whitney M. Young, a prominent civil rights leader and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">advocate for social justice who led the National Urban League from 1961 until his death in 1971.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGovernor Cooper\u2019s thoughtful leadership has been so vital to the quality of life we want to create for those the Urban League serves in our community,\u201d said Urban League of Central Carolinas Board Chair Aenis S. Harris, Jr. \u201cHis commitment to workforce training and connections to jobs that provide a livable wage, access to affordable housing and so much more, make him a true champion and advocate for economic mobility.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to Governor Cooper receiving the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award, ULCC will also present the Vernon A. Jordon Award to Raki McGregor, the Community Catalyst Award to the Mecklenburg County of Elders, and the Community Leadership Award to fifteen of Charlotte Executive Leadership Committee\u2019s (CELC) CMS Executives in Residence (EnRs).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re so pleased to be able to honor these individuals and organizations who have greatly impacted our <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">community,\u201d said Robyn Lake Hamilton, President and CEO of ULCC. \u201cEach has demonstrated leadership <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a commitment to improving the lives of others through extraordinary community service and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">investment.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards Gala is presented by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zora Neale Hurston sponsor,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Atrium Health,<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supported by <\/span><b>Truist, <\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Josephine Baker sponsor<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Wells Fargo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Duke Ellington sponsor, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">along with other<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">corporate and community sponsors.
